I’m hoping you just worded that question poorly and actually meant ‘let the wife have dinner with her ex without having a tantrum’ as opposed to ‘allowing’ which kinda smacks of having the right to overrule another’s autonomy.
That aside, I guess the question comes down to “Do you trust your wife? Do you trust her decisions?” Examine your own feelings about the matter and ask yourself honestly whether it’s a trust issue with her or an insecurity issue with you.
If you don’t trust her or trust her decisions… well honestly, your relationship has bigger issues than questions about dinner. You can’t successfully watch someone 24/7 thus stopping them from cheating but you can drive them away with distrust and suspicion. I’ve seen that happen more than once → People so desperate to hold on to someone that they smother them, have jealous meltdowns and end up being responsible for driving the person away in the first place.
